Their Mandarin Class
四年級生,成長的過程中,有光緒的外婆、昭和的母親、民國的自己、西元的女兒,一家四代,歷經不同的文化背景。從あいうえお到ㄅㄆㄇ再到ABC,王馨敏吃力地學習、轉換不同的語言,面臨一次次的文化衝擊,在時空的遷徙過程中,尋找對自己定位的思考。用最難及最喜歡的白與黑作主調,表達出專屬於ㄅㄆㄇㄈ的豐富情感,各種字母不斷重組、更替後,不再只是符碼,而是生命的刻痕
Born in post-war 1950s, Wang has a grandmother born in the Quing dynasty, a mother born in the colonial time and a daughter born in the republic era. There is a micro history in her family, witnessing the rapid transition of political regimes and the use of different languages. She tries hard to pick up languages from Japanese, Mandarin to English and seeks through her works to represent such a complicated identity in the face of strong cultural impact. Different alphabetic combinations and sequential orders compose an ambivalent feeling of her generation living in Taiwan.
